The New York Paralegal (Delmar/Cengage Learning)

The New York Paralegal: Essential Rules, Documents, and Resources (Delmar/Cengage Learning)
Preface

What does it take to be an outstanding paralegal in New York? Three key ingredients in your success are your paralegal education, native intelligence, and determination. This book seeks to complement all three by bringing together in one volume a vast amount of material that is either essential for all paralegals or useful for many.

Our focus is on the state of New York—-state resources, state laws, and state associations. Some federal laws and institutions will also be included when they are directly relevant to the state, e.g., federal government jobs for paralegals in federal agencies located in New York.

The book has eight parts:
Part 1. Paralegal Profession
Part 2. Paralegal Employment
Part 3. Ethics, Paralegals, and Attorneys
Part 4. Legal System
Part 5. Legal Research and Records Research
Part 6. Procedure: Some Basics
Part 7. Sample Documents
Part 8. A Comprehensive Legal Dictionary

The last part contains a comprehensive legal dictionary with selected definitions specifically keyed to New York law.

Within each of the first seven parts of the book, the sections will often include the following features:

- Introduction: an overview of what is in the section and why it was included in the book.
- Table of Contents: an alphabetical list of the main topics or areas covered in the section.
- Abbreviations Used in the Section
- Materials and Resources: the heart of the section.
- More Information: leads to further materials, usually on the Internet.
- Something to Check: questions that will help you expand and build on the material in the section.
